Where to eat in Neukölln – the 12 best restaurants from Rixdorf to Schillerkiez

Two Michelin stars on Friedelstraße, a Bib Gourmand counter on Okerstraße and dumplings in the Reuterkiez: no Berlin district eats like Neukölln.

No Berlin district has moved as far, as fast, as Neukölln: the borough of Spätis and snack counters has become the densest restaurant landscape in the city — with two Michelin stars on Friedelstraße, a Bib Gourmand counter on Okerstraße and a natural-wine density that has no local rival.

Twelve places between Rixdorf, Reuterkiez and Schillerpromenade — from a two-star tasting menu to a plate of dumplings.

Barra – Bib Gourmand on Okerstraße

Neukölln · EuropeanBarraTo the map

Chef Daniel Remers and sommelier Kerry Westhead (previously P. Franco in London) run seasonal sharing plates from regional ingredients, with low-intervention wines from Jura, Loire and Catalonia — rewarded with a Bib Gourmand in 2025. On the plates, depending on the market: oysters with seaweed jelly, asparagus with wild-garlic foam, duck with chanterelles.

Ask for a seat at the kitchen counter — Westhead runs the pairing, Remers plates. Open Monday to Friday only.

Merold – fermentation behind a tagged wall

Neukölln · EuropeanMeroldTo the map

Reopened after a forced 18-month pause due to structural danger: Jonas Merold (trained under Tim Raue, years at Coda Dessert Bar) pairs Japanese fermentation techniques with Brandenburg product research, while sommelier Anton pours Blanc de Noir from Weingut am Klotz. Stainless-steel counter, open kitchen, pared-back room.

Add the Imperial caviar upgrade to the cheese spätzle course — decadent and homey at once.

eins44 – bistro cooking in an old distillery

Neukölln · Europeaneins44To the map

In a rear courtyard on Elbestraße, where liqueur essences were distilled for decades, eins44 cooks a monthly-rotating menu between German and French bistro registers — parts of the original fittings still stand in the dining room. The wine list digs into lesser-known growers from Germany and France, with a deep Riesling focus.

Lunch keeps the card tighter and the courtyard quieter — the clearest window onto the house's handwriting.

Feed the Pony – the North Atlantic in the Schillerkiez

Neukölln · EuropeanFeed the PonyTo the map

Chef Hannah from Berlin and sommelier Martin from Belfast serve North-Atlantic-Scandinavian plates on Schillerpromenade, backed by hand-picked low-intervention wines. Wine sparked the whole project — biodynamic in focus, but without dogma. Signature: Brezel Bites with yeast emulsion and a glass of Vouvray.

Ask for the cellar — Martin keeps more wine below and brings up a funky natural on request.

Hallmann und Klee – fine dining on Böhmischer Platz

Neukölln · Fine DiningHallmann und KleeTo the map

The one-time brunch mecca with the legendary pancakes has become an evening fine-dining room: Sarah Hallmann and Rosa Beutelspacher — both with Facil pedigree — cook clear, regional plates and openly declare their love for butter. The non-alcoholic pairing is run as an equal to the wine list.

Choose the vegetarian menu: vegetables run the show here, not the sides — the lovage broth on the potato purée carries the style openly.

CODA Dessert Dining – two stars on Friedelstraße

Neukölln · BarCODA Dessert DiningTo the map

The first dessert restaurant in the world with two Michelin stars: René Frank (World's Best Pastry Chef 2022) turns dessert technique onto savoury ground — 13 to 15 courses, five flavour profiles, no refined sugar, every course with its own drink pairing. Graffiti façade outside, entry via a discreet doorbell.

Book weeks ahead and plan on the pairing — it's part of the concept, not an add-on.

Gazzo – the sourdough pizza that set the standard

Neukölln · ItalianGazzoTo the map

Sourdough pizza was still a concept in Berlin before Gazzo made it the standard in the late 2010s: the dough matures for days, the flour is organic, the toppings come from small regional farms. Behind the oven stands a Norwegian pizzaiolo with a Michelin-kitchen past — the pies come out airy rather than charred.

Eat the crust — that's where the fermentation lives. Finish with the buffalo-milk soft serve with olive oil and Maldon salt.

Café Botanico – Rixdorf's permaculture garden

Neukölln · ItalianCafé BotanicoTo the map

Behind the green façade on Richardstraße lies what is, by its own account, the only certified organic garden in Berlin's inner city: more than 200 edible plants, whose wild herbs owner Martin Höfft picks daily for the evening service. The kitchen is Italian with a Berlin inflection; the signature is the Havelland wild-boar ragout.

Several times a year Höfft leads garden tours himself — just under an hour, then herbal lemonade on the terrace.

AVIV 030 – Tel Aviv aperitivo in Rixdorf

Neukölln · IsraeliAVIV 030To the map

Red neon letters above the door of one of Rixdorf's prettiest corner buildings, a DJ booth next to the bar: aperitivo, translated to Tel Aviv and Neukölln at once. The menu stays short — four dishes as a pita or hummus bowl, plus köfte from the Rixdorf blood-sausage maker and a weekend challah burger with pulled beef.

Order the panko-crusted cauliflower with amba — the most honest reason you'll go back to the counter.

Bari – day bar on Friedelstraße

Neukölln · BarBariTo the map

Since May 2026, Bari has paired Italian-American classics with neighbourhood-bar ease: aperitivo and drinks in the afternoon, pasta and dinner in the evening, open Thursday to Sunday. A place for long afternoons that slide unnoticed into late nights.

Come for the aperitivo and stay through dinner — that long transition is exactly what the day bar is built for.

Knödelwirtschaft SÜD – four dumplings, one plate

Neukölln · AustrianKnödelwirtschaft SÜDTo the map

The Fuldastraße branch does one thing and does it properly: Knödel. Four varieties rotate every few months — Bergkäse and Speck are fixed, joined by spinach-ricotta, beetroot and a vegan tofu-mushroom version. The small room reads like an old Neukölln shopfront, and the kitchen stays Austrian-South Tyrolean and handmade.

Mix the varieties on one plate — explicitly allowed. Close with the Grießknödel and apricot compote.

Kitten Deli – Levantine-vegetarian on Friedelstraße

Neukölln · BakeryKitten DeliTo the map

A vegetarian deli with an Israeli-Levantine focus where nobody misses the meat: sabich with roasted aubergine as the signature, hummus, roasted cauliflower, kohlrabi with feta and labneh. Challah and pita are baked in-house, and the wine programme rolls into the afternoon aperitivo.

Take the sabich plate, even if the shakshuka tempts first — the aubergine with tahini and egg is the heart of the menu.

Bottom line

Neukölln stopped being a secret long ago, but it remains the district where Berlin's cooking is told at its densest: stars next to dumplings, permaculture next to pita, natural wine on every other corner. To understand this city in one evening, start between Rixdorf and the Reuterkiez.
