Eating and drinking in Schöneberg – 9 addresses from eight in the morning to four at night

A cook from Le Faubourg fills bowls at lunch, an espresso world champion works a counter in the Akazienkiez: Schöneberg's everyday addresses come out of fine dining.

Schöneberg has a quirk: the people behind its everyday addresses come out of fine dining strikingly often. A cook from Le Faubourg fills bowls at lunch, a two-time world champion pulls espresso at prices you read twice, and a trio out of Berlin's top kitchens and luxury hotels makes breakfast.

Nine addresses, five of them in the Akazienkiez — from eight in the morning to four at night.

Gorilla Bäckerei – sourdough out of a glazed bakeroom

Schöneberg · BakeryGorilla Bäckerei SchönebergTo the map

On the EUREF campus, a few steps from S-Bahnhof Schöneberg, sourdough, focaccia and Roman pizza slices travel from a glazed bakeroom straight into the display. You order at the counter, and the mid-morning queue is part of the setup. The brunch menu rotates and stays vegan-vegetarian but for one dish.

Polenta with roasted corn or a pancake with green asparagus, plus viennoiserie from laminated dough. Daily, eight to six.

Jules Geisberg – specialty coffee in a converted post office

Schöneberg · CaféJules GeisbergTo the map

Jules sits in a converted post office building on Geisbergstraße, in the middle of the Bayerisches Viertel. Big windows, marble accents and warm wood keep the room quiet. On the menu, specialty coffee from a local roastery — espresso, filter or cold brew, alongside rotating house-made cakes, often vegan or gluten-free.

Later in the day, Berlin beer and natural wine join the list, plus a few cocktails. Croissants and small sandwiches round out the display.

Jones Ice Cream – sweet meets salty on Goltzstraße

Schöneberg · Ice CreamJones Ice CreamTo the map

The original address of an ice cream maker that bakes its own waffles and cookies and lets sweet meet salty. Flavours like fudge choco caramel peanuts, Earl Grey shortbread lemon curd or salted butter caramel rotate in the case. Everything is egg-free, made with fresh milk and cream, plus three vegan fruit sorbets.

The carrot cake genuinely tastes of cake — they do not skimp on chunks of chocolate and dough. Daily, noon to seven.

Schüsseldienst – Le Faubourg craft, served at lunch in a bowl

Schöneberg · EuropeanSchüsseldienstTo the map

Felix Mielke plated for seven years in the starred kitchen of Le Faubourg and has run his own place since 2019, on Akazienstraße 7 since May 2021. You order self-service and eat out of bowls rather than off plates — the craft stays, the form changes.

The anchor is the catfish bowl, tataki-style, the fish treated as a course of its own. Beside it, open sandwiches on sourdough. Weekdays only, noon to eight.

Frühstück 3000 – lobster brioche instead of avocado toast

Schöneberg · CaféFrühstück 3000To the map

In the corner building on Bülowstraße across from Urban Nation, with a terrace and an interior in muted greens and blues. Behind the menu sits a delicatessen past: the founding trio brings a hand shaped by Berlin's top kitchens and luxury hotels into a breakfast that breaks the German routine.

Concept twists instead of avocado toast — lobster brioche with poached eggs, eggs Benedict with caviar, cheddar waffles with fried chicken. Daily, nine to four.

FABELEI – a centrifuge behind the bar

Schöneberg · BarFABELEI CocktailbarTo the map

A bright, smoke-free cocktail bar with a bistro kitchen on the corner of Kyffhäuserstraße, in the middle of the Akazienkiez. Behind the counter they work with fat-washing, fermentation and a centrifuge; syrups and cordials are made in house. The list runs from quoted classics to drinks of their own.

Classic Tuesday on Tuesdays, tartare on Thursdays, and a regular supper club across five courses. Daily from six.

DoubleEye – the world champion at the espresso counter

Schöneberg · CaféDoubleEyeTo the map

In the middle of the Akazienkiez stands a tiny espresso counter with half the street gathered in front of it on a good day. DoubleEye is one of Berlin's oldest specialty coffee addresses, run by a two-time world champion barista who produces the house blend in the roastery behind the counter.

Espresso is the core line, pulled precisely and available in two strengths. For the quality, the prices are almost indecently low.

Victoria Bar – on Potsdamer Straße since 2001

Schöneberg · BarVictoria BarTo the map

Stefan Weber and Beate Hindermann have run the Victoria Bar since 2001; Weber was named bartender of the year in the Gault-Millau that same year. After the fire in December 2022, the team reopened in September 2023 with the interior restored: wood panelling, hand-painted wallpaper, honey-yellow lamps.

The long counter is the centre, and the booths below it work for two as well. Fridays and Saturdays until four in the morning.

Bonvivant Cocktail Bistro – a vegan Michelin star on Goltzstraße

Schöneberg · VeganBonvivant Cocktail BistroTo the map

On Goltzstraße, head chef Nikodemus Berger cooks fully vegan — and does it with a Michelin star. Foraged Berlin wild herbs run through the menu. The room is zoned: a pastel-velvet lounge and a bar you can eat at up front, the bistro with dark green walls behind.

In the evening the menu and bespoke drinks run in parallel, with or without alcohol. Dinner Wednesday to Saturday from six, plus brunch Friday through Sunday.

Bottom line

Nine addresses, and a striking number of them are run by people who came out of fine dining and now make lunch bowls, espresso and breakfast. Five of them sit in the Akazienkiez, and together they cover the day from eight in the morning to four at night.
