Wine bar and restaurant in an 1860s pharmacy on Oranienplatz: a big wine list and sharing plates by Alan Micks.

ORA is wine bar and restaurant in the former Oranien-Apotheke on Oranienplatz, a pharmacy from the 1860s whose lettering is still on the facade. The woodwork and ceiling cornices from the 1860s and 1920s survive, and after careful restoration the place reopened. The head chef is Irishman Alan Micks, who previously ran the restaurant at the Michelberger.

The wine list is why many people come; Star Wine List counted ORA among Berlin's best wine addresses in 2024. The kitchen is built for sharing: Carlingford oysters, pork rillettes with caramelised apple, razor clams with seaweed garlic butter, grilled carrots with smoked chilli and labneh, polenta fries with blue cheese aioli or steak bordelaise with bone marrow butter. Best to take the Chef's Choice menu for two. Dinner Tuesday to Saturday, lunch on Fridays and Saturdays too.
