Green Door Bar

American bar behind the green door on Winterfeldtstraße since 1995: classics and house cocktails, Germany's Bar of the Year 2025.

Behind the green door on Winterfeldtstraße is an American bar with a long wooden counter. It was opened in April 1995 by Fritz Müller-Scherz, a screenwriter and actor from Munich who had worked for years in Rainer Werner Fassbinder's circle, together with Tina Hegewisch and Stefan Weber. The furniture came from New York in the nineties, the artist Thomas Hauser painted the walls in checks and wood grain, and hardly anything has changed since. The result lies somewhere between a private salon and a David Lynch film.

Above the bar the motto "The power of positive drinking" still hangs. Today Andrea Kuhn runs the bar. They serve classics and house creations, such as the Apricozy with cognac, roasted apricot, Finnish rye whisky and Madeira, or the Holy Motors with mezcal, port, cassis and ancho chilli. In 2025 Green Door was named Germany's Bar of the Year at the Mixology Bar Awards. Since this summer there is a bigger terrace.
