EIVGI'S
SchönebergKosher spot opposite Rathaus Schöneberg: freshly fried falafel, hummus and shakshuka from Shalom Eivgi, formerly head chef at the Maritim.

Shalom Eivgi grew up in Yokneam in Israel, one of eight children in a religious family. He learned to cook from his mother, standing next to her at the stove. In 2003 he came to Berlin with his wife, first cooked kosher food for students at Jewish learning centres and then spent more than ten years as head chef at the Maritim Hotel. After that he went independent, with a small place opposite Rathaus Schöneberg.
Insider tip
„Order the falafel — they come fresh from the fryer at the window, with hummus and salad.“
EIVGI'S is kosher, certified by Rabbi Zvi Aloni. Falafel are fried fresh at the window, hummus and chopped salad stand on the counter, and there is shakshuka and dishes from family cooking. The room has only a few tables. Eivgi also caters weddings, bar mitzvahs and Shabbat. On Fridays it closes in the early afternoon, and on Saturdays it stays shut.
