Diener Tattersall on Grolmanstraße has been the Berlin artists' pub since 1954 — Franz Diener — a former German heavyweight boxer — took over the heritage-protected building (originally a riding school from 1893) and turned it into a meeting place for actors, artists and intellectuals.
The walls have hung with portraits ever since, the gallery grew over the decades with the guests. Since 2005, Barbara Kraehkamp has run the house. On the menu: veal schnitzel with pan-fried potatoes and eggs in mustard sauce, meatballs — the classics, with nobody explaining them away.
