Wine bar with sharing plates on Erkelenzdamm from two former Frieda cooks: a daily menu with a Japanese accent.

David Eckman and Jacques Voß worked together at Café Frieda until it felt right for both of them to open something of their own. Since August 2024 they have run Kanal61 on Erkelenzdamm, behind a historic facade, with an open kitchen, plenty of greenery and records.

The menu changes almost daily and is built from seasonal, regional produce. Many dishes recall the pair's travels, especially to Japan: pickled sardines with einkorn shoyu, ricotta with mandarin koshu, dairy cow tartare with katsuobushi soy and cucumber, or grilled pork belly with spring onion and karashi mustard. There is wine to go with it. Dinner Thursday to Sunday, lunch at weekends too.
